| Local Swimming Area | To the right of town just below the Portara |

Everybody calls St Georges the town beach but, perhaps, the real town beach is this one. The rumour is that the local pharmacist, Della Rocca, takes frequent samples of water here to test its purity and, being assured of its lack of contaminants, swims here every day . Well worth a lazy afternoon although there is no beach as such but, instead, paved bathing ledges. Superb views. |
| St George's or the Town Beach. |
Looking out to sea from the Paralia, about 1K to the left. |
There are many tavernas and bars lining the town beach, the best of these (in our opinion) is Paradise - which is. Pedaloes, wind-surfers, loungers and umbrellas are available. Although times have changed, this used to be the beach used by Greek families so going topless showed bad manners and even nowadays you should not go nude.

The beach that can be seen from Chora and the town beach reached by a turning off the right-hand (new) road to Procopios 4k |
A small cove usually not much used though, now, there are several places to stay. A few yards from the shore there is a line of rocks which makes swimming difficult.
| Procopios
|
Left along the bays from the town beach until the road runs parallel then follow this. Where it forks, just passed the airport, the left reaches the village first, the right the beach. 6k |
The start of many kilometers of sandy beaches. Wonderful swimming with a steeply shelving entry into the sea. Very strange phenomenon in season - the sea smells strongly of sun oils. Many pleasant bars, tavernas and cafés, supermarkets, car/bike hire, hotels and tourist offices. An easy walk.
| Agia Anna |
The next beach after Procopios 7k |
This is, just about, the most popular resort beach lined with pleasant bars, tavernas and cafés. Still quite rustic with nothing really posh. An easy walk from town if you stop at Procopios for a bottle of wine. |
|
| Plaka Beach |
Passed the little church on the headland to the left of Agia Anna or follow the road to Maragas camping 8k |
Once upon a time this was miles of empty beach with just the odd, nude sunbather and, towards the far end, hippy types camping. There was just one, ramshackle taverna. Now, the beach road is lined with tavernas, bars , hotels, rooms, supermarkets. The last bar is Blue Bay Bar which looks very charming. Try Vlassis Family Taverna.
| Mikri Vigla |
A bus, car or bike journey away from town - just a bit too far for a comfortable stroll. 18k |
A pleasant beach of two parts; one the obvious, the other a brief walk away facing back to town. Can be a a bit bleak and windy but has a few good taverna.
| Kastraki |
Follow the coast road - signposts to Pyrgaki. 16k |
When we last went here there was just a superb, empty beach. I'm sure lots have changed. Let us know.
| Abram |
Follow the coast (old) road to Apollonas and this beach is about half way 25k |
We cannot tell you anything about this beach as we've never been there. Comments are welcome.
| Apollonas |
All roads lead to Apollonas. Either follow the coast road to the right of town or go on the motorway through Chalki, Filoti and Aperanthos. 54 k |
Until Aghia Anna challenged, this was the main holiday resort on Naxos. It has everything you want from such a place - restaurants, bars, cafés, hotels, rooms, shops, etc, etc. And, as a bonus, a huge kouros. |

| Moutsouna | 39k | Tavernas and rooms to rent. The cable car from the emery mines ends here. It used to be a port for the exporting of emery. | |
| Pyrgaki | 21k | Water skiing, wind surfing. rooms and cafés. excellent beach but rather exposed so, you cans fry or, depending on the prevailing winds, be blown away. | |
